This LearnDash plugin filters Course, Lesson, Topic and Quiz comments by group.
In LearnDash, when you create groups, there is no facility to filter comments so only those members of each group can see them. Instead LearnDash uses the standard WordPress post and page comments for this. WordPress has no function to filter these comments, therefore, neither does LearnDash.
With this plugin, when you create groups in LearnDash, only those users in that Course, Lesson, Topic or Quiz can create, view and reply to comments in their current group.
This plugin removes the requirement for the following plugins:
- ithinx Groups
- ithnix Group Comments Pro
- BBPress LearnDash Integration
- BuddyPress (forums)
- BuddyPress LearnDash Integration
and lets you focus your user workflow on LearnDash.
Exactly what does this plugin do?
This plugin does 3 things:
- It removes the need for the above plugins and lets you manage your LearnDash groups back in LearnDash rather than having to duplicate your efforts between itthinx and LearnDash groups.
- It filters the comments in LearnDash courses, lessons, topics and quizzes so only those users in the same group can see the comments of their co-group members.
- Unlike the BBPress and BuddyPress solutions, it keeps the learner in your course.
- It lets you create 1 course and register different groups to the 1 course without them seeing comments of other groups.
Use this product in conjunction with our LearnDash Group Assignment Gallery plugin and you will never have to duplicate a course again to isolate user groups. All course, lesson, topic, and quiz groups will only see their own group information.
You need only install this plugin and it will automatically take over the rest for you. Configuration for this plugin is done in the WordPress Admin panel > Settings > Discussion page, while all comments and replies remain subject to LearnDash approval settings.
To install this plugin:
After extracting this ZIP file to your desktop, go to your WordPress Plugins > Add New
Click on the upload Plugin button located in the top left corner of the page.
Browse to your desktop and select the learndash_group_comments.zip file.
Click on the Install Now button.
Click on the Activate Plugin link.
To configure this plugin:
In WP-Admin > Settings > Discussion…
scroll down to the “Email me whenever” section and adjust your setting (this area only sets up the emals sent to the site administrator).
Scroll down to the next item “Before a comment appears” to configure your comment moderation rules
“Comment must be manually approved” means only the user who commented will see the comment until a Group Leader or administrator approves it.
Comments are approved in WP-Admin Comments “Comment author must have a previously approved comment ” is somewhat meaningless in this setup, but it should be checked to be sure other web pages in your site do not get spammed if you allow comments in them.

scroll down to see the Discussion section of the post.
If you do not see a discussion section, click “Screen Options in the upper-right and check the box for it.
To enable comments per post, check the ‘Allow comments” checkbox in the Discussion panel and Update the post.
